The Modern Gold Bullion Family of Coins – Part 3
The “Golden Kangaroo” of Australia
This member of the ‘Bullion Coin Family’ is the Australian Golden Kangaroo, or the Nugget as it is also known.
It is minted by the The Perth Mint and in a ceremony in Sydney on the 23rd of April 1987, the Nugget Coin Series was launched.
Official duties were performed by the then Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.
As a prolific gold mining nation, the name “Nugget” seemed the natural choice.
The 1oz gold coin is struck in 24 carat gold (999.9), (99.99%) and contains 31.10 grams of pure gold.
The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse side features a design of the beautiful indigenous Kangaroo, which is updated every year. Making this another great coin for collector’s. The 2018 Kangaroo was designed by Neil Hollis of the Perth Mint.
The Nugget can be bought in different weights / denominations of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10th oz and 1/20th oz.
The Perth Mint offers an extensive range of collector’s coins and bullion, many of which feature their vast range of wildlife, animals, history and dangerous creatures!
